Ah, come on, Hutch

For once, you, me and Juppo are almost in agreement on an issue, and you think this a partisan thing? I think support for THA and "rails with trails" cuts across the political spectrum, as most folks in Humboldt are in favor of this. The workforce in Humboldt is not all on the political left or right, there are members in both camps and in the middle, as well as some undecided and some who don't care about politics at all. I've talked with nurses and other hospital staff (who tend to the left) who say keep the rail so we can set up a commuter service between Fortuna and Arcata as gas goes up, and I've heard loggers and business owners (who tend to the right) who say keep the rail for freight someday, and elderly (who are a mixed bag, politically) who value the history of the line, as they remember riding the train or working in the mill years ago, and the general public (middle of the road in Humboldt) who like taking their kids on the Speeder Rides and see what a boon the Tourist Train could be. This not a left vs. right issue, in my opinion.

The only reason the Trail Crowd had 43 people show up at the Board of Supervisors Meeting is because most of us who support THA are busy working. These guys who want trail only are the same folks who always file lawsuits against the railroad and the mills, I highly suspect. There is a little known law, which was intended to help veterans appealing to the govt. for their benefits, which pays back their court costs if they lose the case. A noble intent, but there is a loophole-those who routinely sue the RR have discovered they can take advantage of this law, so it's no sweat off their back. That's why I don't include them as members of the workforce, since they only seem to help keep the lawyers employed! They appear to have nothing better to do than go to a Supervisors Meeting and voice their opinion, as if they speak for all, then they claim those evil railfans are in their way, even though we would not only support a trail next to the ROW, we might even help them get it! A trail would provide us railfans with good access in order to railfan legally!

(OK, time to be sarcastic!) Ugh, why do I bother? Maybe we should all just roll over and let them win, the vocal minority in Humboldt with all their demands. @#$%& it, maybe we should all just leave the county so these 43 individuals can run it, all by themselves...them and Clif, too!
