‘America’s Cup Express’ Pulls Into San Francisco Tuesday, July 24
AC Express to Bring Equipment and Cargo to Bay Area for America’s Cup World
Series
WHAT: The ‘America’s Cup Express’ is scheduled to arrive in San Francisco
on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Carrying the cargo for the event and the
teams of the America’s Cup World Series, the train is nearly 1.5
miles long and has 121 railway cars. It includes: the AC45 race boats
from the international fleet, ACTV equipment, as well as all the
equipment needed for the teams and organizers.
The train left Newport, RI, site of the last AC World Series event,
on July 9, for San Francisco, home of the next America’s Cup World
Series to be held August 21-26, 2012.
The train will arrive at Pier 80 in San Francisco Tuesday
afternoon at 1pm, followed by a few remarks from America’s Cup Event
Authority CEO Stephen Barclay, America’s Cup Organizing Committee CEO
Kyri McClellan and Port Executive Director Monique Moyer as well as
City representatives

WHO: America’s Cup Event Authority CEO Stephen Barclay, America’s Cup
Organizing Committee CEO, Kyri McClellan, Port Commission President Doreen
Woo Ho, International Secretary-Treasurer, ILWU Willie Adams, and Port
Executive Director Monique Moyer, as well as City representatives
WHY: The AC Express kicks off the San Francisco race schedule for the
America’s Cup World Series. This is the first time that a train has used
the facilities at Pier 80 in over 10 years.
WHEN: Tuesday, July 24 - Please be in position at 12:45pm for a 1:00pm
photo opportunity. The train is arriving at 1:00pm sharp and will
block the entry to Pier 80, so please ensure arrival ahead of the
train. Speakers will make short remarks immediately after the train
arrives and will be available for a short Q&A after.
Unloading of the 121 railway cars will begin on Wednesday. Due to the
volume of cargo the unloading operations will be split over two days,
Wednesday and Friday. On Thursday empty cars will leave the pier and
the remaining cargo will arrive to be unloaded the following day.
WHERE: Pier 80, San Francisco
Entry via the gate marked ORACLE TEAM USA at the junction between
Marin and Illinois. Please note that there will NOT be access to the
ORACLE TEAM USA base.
MORE: The America’s Cup was first raced in 1851, 45 years before the
modern Olympics, and is one of the most fiercely competitive
and sought after trophies in all of sport. The U.S. yacht
America won, giving the international sailing competition its
