The train operation was kind of interesting. The Cup website's pix of the Tuesday arrival (essentially a container train) are OK. Using Pier 80 for the first time in 10 years probably cost the City ports people a bunch to clear the junk off the tracks and fix things up a bit. Interesting to see in Google all the tracks north of Pier 80 still in the streets and various other spots (especially piers) that will never be used again (cut off from the RR system by road and Muni construction and general redevelopment of the area).
But on the whole I agree with you Drew: this is rich boyz toyz and there's no need to get worked up about it. Recreational boat (or yacht = rich folks boat) is essentially a hole in the water into which money is poured. So it keeps a few specialists employed; great for them, but irrelevant for 99% of us. Noted now let's get on with life.
Recent Federal Register listings show that the rearrangements of commercial shipping in the Bay to accommodate the AC racing season (it's not just one race) are quite extensive (and probably expensive for the shippers).
