The experimental locomotives are intermediate line-haul units, with an operating range of about 200 miles, and will be used exclusively in California.

They're going to try to hold the units in captive service on locals and haulers. For example, Roseville-Redding, Roseville-Bay Area/Watsonville, Roseville-Stockton/Fresno.
