Whistle Stop Trains in Portland is actually on SOUTHEAST Division Street, not NORTHEAST, if you are in town and trying to find it. It's on Division at SE 117th Avenue; the big ALCO PA on the sign is a good beacon.
If you're looking for railroad books at the main Powell's store in downtown Portland, they're actually at their technical bookstore right across the street at NW 10th and Couch. There's a (northbound) Portland Streetcar stop right in front of the store.
Speaking of Portland Streetcar, they are scheduled to open their Eastside Extension on Sep. 22, the same day as the Oregon Rail Heritage Center. The south end of the streetcar extension is right by the east side of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) and about a one-block walk east to the rail heritage center.
