When did Caltrain start?

Curious when Caltrain actually started. In an old box I found a SP Commute schedule from 4/1/1978. Was that the last one? Just for fun I scanned it so now I have a PDF...

FWIW, the running time for the almost-all-stops train was 1:20 from SF to SJ. Many peak trains skipped a lot of stops and got there sooner. Saturdays also still had several actual commuter trains in addition to the base schedule -- I guess some people still had to work or else they were for the downtown shoppers. Caltrain seems to operate just the Sunday schedule on weekends. Also, their running time seems to be a bit longer than SP's.
