Pretty good discussion. I'm glad to see that both sides are able to get their comments in. I thought for sure this would be an "all union" thread with everybody trashing the GOP and then praising the unions as being oh-so-wonderful. Yes, in our history, unions have done wonderful things. But they are NOT "our" unions any more. All of this talk about the "1%'ers", well, the top union management folks ARE the 1%'era (i.e, the head of the Teamsters). And the working people....hah!....surely you jest.
Keep in mind one thing about party platforms----they write down what their side wants to hear. It doesn't mean they're going to DO what is written in the platform, it just means they're satisfying their base. Does anyone honestly believe that if we were to get a President Romney, his first order of business is going to attack the fact that Turtle Pie has been removed from the dessert menu on Amtrak dining cars?? (tongue-in-cheek for those with no humor). Of course not. He will have such a big plate in front of him that Amtrak will be about number 136,487 on his "to do" list. Besides, there are plenty of huge egos in Congress who will shout and holler if Amtrak's funds are touched---they will represent their districts and their district's money.
As far as the Ryan budget and taking away the RR retirement.....come on now, that's ridiculous. It ain't gonna happen. It might be something for him to talk about at one point in the past, but that's it. Don't believe the union propaganda---they are purposely trying to stir you up so that you'll vote for Obama. They KNOW that Obama is in trouble this time around and he has a slim chance for reelection. They will do ANYTHING at this point to get him to win. Use your head and your common sense.
