Does Metrolink from LAUPT to San Pedro and back on the Alameda Corridor count a pretty rare passenger mileage?

The answer to that is a resounding "Yes!" Passenger movements on that line have been rare, and when a APTA special train using Metrolink equipment made a round-trip over the line on April 2, 2005, I made sure I was on board.

Rare mileage? Some of my rarest miles have been:

Crookton, AZ to Williams Jct., AZ via Ash Fork. It's now abandoned between Crookton and Ash Fork.

<> Campo, CA - Plaster City, CA on the then-KYLE operated SD&AE. You can't get that anymore.

<> Carlin, NV to Klamath Falls, OR on a SP freight over the Modoc Line. You can't get that anymore.

<> Spences Bridge, BC to Penticton, BC on a freight. We got to ride in the business car "Van Horne" that was deadheading to Penticton for a business meeting. The next day we rode the local down to Okanagan Falls and back. All of this trackage is now gone.

<> Willits, CA to Eureka, CA on the lone SP Budd RDC car. Can't get that anymore.

<> Fort St. James, BC to Bulkley House, BC on the BCOL Dease Lake extension. We were on a WCRA RDC Budd car "grand tour" of the BCOL. We also covered the Tumbler Ridge coal branch. Both of these lines are now either dormant or probably never to be used again.

<> Florida East Coast from Jacksonville, FL to Riviera Beach, FL on a AAPRCO special. It's anyone's guess as to whether that line will see restored passenger service. They've only been discussing it for about fifty years.

<> Denver, CO to Glenwood Springs, CO via the Royal Gorge and Tennessee Pass. Can't get that anymore.
