The ethanal shipments, even by rail, are expensive, and add about 40 cents a gallon to CA fule costs, and requires more energy to ship and use in CA as an additive, than we save from using this "green" fuel (mostly the "green" going from consumer pockets to ADM?). Replacing energy wasting ethanol with perfectly good alternative additive which reduce ozone producing summer hydrocarbon emissions which is available for a few cents a gallon would save all of us almost 40 cents a gallon in CA. Thank you farm state Senators......... for picking our CA pockets with phoney fuel independence and a phoney environmentzal solution.
It's interesting that the Amtrak record year has beeen in response to better and more reliable services, not just gas prices.
I will be going to the dedication of the newly reinstalled and restored platforms at Union Station, they open for business next Wednesday, October 17, 2012. This added capacity is badly needed and will allow for additional Orange County services.
Metro ridership on rail is also setting new records.
I expect we will see the same results for Metrolink ridership in the Summer quarter, which won't be reported for several months, despite the rather severed recent fare increases. Weekend unlimited pass fares have definitely been a hit, just go to Union Station on the weekends.
