Have these snowsheds on Marias Pass been replaced yet with those constructed with concrete or are they still the wooden type style like what the SP had on Donner Pass many years ago? Are their any wooden type snowsheds left on any rail line in the US? Anywhere?
Is this the only route with snowsheds on it in addition to Donner Pass? Or are there others in the US? Stampede Pass or the Cascade routes maybe as I seem to vaguely recall?
Interestingly, I have noticed that the UP (former D&RGW) Moffat Tunnel route dosen't have any snowsheds on it. Yet this route does recieve a substantial amount of snow yearly? Why? Does the amount of snowfall, lack of tunnels to serve as shelter or topography affect a railroads decision making on whether to construct snow sheds?
