The wigwags will never return unfortunately. They were deemed inadequate crossing protection in 1949 for new installations although current installations were grandfathered in. As parts have become unavailable, since they have not been made since 1960, more and more of them are being lost to mechanical failure.
I have been having some parts made by a machinist here here in the Tampa area. Been working on the WRRS Autoflag 5's and now am working on the few parts that wear out on the Magnetic Flagman.
The wigwags were such interesting machines and the fact they they have held up for almost 100 years is truely remarkable. Try and find anything that lasts that long today.
Hopefully with some replicated parts and some luck, we can keep them going in our collections and musuems.
