Filming commercials or movies is just temporary. What I don't like are advertising banners sprouting up all over the place where they didn't used to be. The support columns for the trainsheds now sport them, and there's advertising all the way up the pedestrian tunnel under the tracks. The place is protected from demolition by being on the National Register of Historic Places -- you'd think there could be some restriction(s) against turning it into one big massive billboard. Where will it end? What are the limits? Is there any mechanism in place that would prevent them from painting the floors and ceiling with advertising and having a big-screen TV placed every thirty feet all over the place blaring some advertising message? There are already big screen TVs in the baggage claim area so passengers can be "entertained" with advertising and company propaganda while they're waiting for their baggage to appear.

Our society is morphing into what was portrayed in the movie Idiocracy. In the movie, every free space was covered in advertising --- even a judge's courtroom and on his bench.

The "justification" is that budgets need to be balanced and cash strapped agencies need the revenue that comes from advertising. I guess I should charge a fee to the corporations and advertisers for having my eardrums and eyes violated by their incessant noise and visual pollution that comes in the form of unsolicited advertising.
