Hardley!

At age 20, I was being incouraged to seek out a family friend who was a crane operator down at the docks and a member of the ILWU. While the obvious lifetime benefits were appealing, my grandfather sat me down and had a long talk about life and work ethics. He taught me the difference between earning a living and making money. He never told me NOT to go for that job, he just explained the value of a honest hard days work.

My father? While he encouraged me to go for that job, he also made it known what his opinion of those lazy bums was. He was and still is a self employed Owner Operator truck driver.

During my working life so far, I have both been a member of the Teamsters and ILWU (seperate times) and both times learned to hate the unions even more so. As some one who wanted to work hard, I was constantly admonished by "my brothers" that I was working too hard.
