The damaged bridge at Richfield was repaired and reopened about 4 years ago and has seen about 5 movements sense. Two movements were local traffic to interchange at Tehama Wye/Gerber and the rest of the moves were storage trains including reefers, grain, baretables, and centerbeams.
Right now if UP wanted to run on the line (they don't), they would have to move 200 centerbeams out of the way at Tehama Wye...then they will have to run 10mph for 50 miles, then 45mph the other 50 miles to Davis. Major signal problems are happening on the North end between Williams and Tehama Wye, plus there are only two "sidings" at less than 5,00 feet so no place to make meets. CFNR's 20 year contract with UP leasing the line is up in 2013. Before Genesee & Wyoming bought out RailAmerica UP had a major interest in rehabilitating the line and taking it back. But now that Genesee & Wyoming is the owner, they most likely won't touch it and will extend the lease with more conditions.
