Many of the HR/Personnel Department managers are imbeciles. They will hire some idiot whom you wouldn't trust for a second and in the long-run, only stays on the job for a short time. Then the individual who would make a dedicated, hard-working, and honest employee is constantly passed-over for hiring.
The HR types have their HR Management college degrees along with inflated egos, but yet they don't have a clue about the real world. As an earlier poster mentioned, BNSF is terrible about hiring those who meet the terms for "diversity," for whatever definitions that code word is supposed to signify.
They'll hire some cute chick who will try to throw a switch with one hand, while holding a water bottle in the other, all because she meets the needs for "diversity."
I have see one California BNSF HR manager show obvious preference and favoritism for those of her nationality/ethnic background, while giving a cold shoulder to those who do not meet her terms. Yes, she too has an inflated ego that is as large as her girth.
