Hats off to Mr. Samuels for making the effort to save this engine. He's right, at some point you just have to utilized your assets and make the hard choices.

That said, I'm amazed that those NW5s didn't become more popular on the aftermarket. The combination of proven EMD reliability, switcher body and Blomberg trucks would seem to me to be gold for shortlines.
