I don't have a dog in this fight between members of the SCC-R&LHS who do or do not favor leasing or transferring the 4014 to the UP. From what I've read I get the impression that one reason that many of the members don't want to let their keystone display steamer leave is that it would lessen their group's status and cause it to be more prone at some point to become the subject of an eviction notice from the powers that control the land they occupy.

Since Altamont Press is heavily California-oriented, many readers may not be aware of such events that have happened in other parts of the country. An example I offer is that of the Inland Empire Chapter - National Railway Historical Society which for over thirty years enjoyed display area for their ever-increasing collection at the Interstate Fair Grounds (now known as the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center - [www.spokanecounty.org]) in Spokane, Washington. One of the remaining pages ( [www.ierhs.50megs.com] ) on their long-time website tells the result of the fairgrounds eviction notice that they received over 10 years ago (bottom of interior scroll bar at [inlandnwrailmuseum.com]). Now known as the Inland NW Rail Museum they have the advantage of a 30-acre site but the disadvantage of being so far from Spokane which makes an increasingly expensive commute for the many regular volunteers and makes their display no longer accessible to the public by public transportation.
