Yes, I do believe that "a straight-through shot for SF-LA" could make it in 2:40 and could be constructed in our late lifetimes, via Tejon, I-5, Altamont and Dumbarton.

I would vote for that, but I won't vote for AmBART. We need a breakthru competitive with air that could be privately run to ride herd on payroll and come reasonably close to breaking even.
