Let's see now, Ampex got out of the business of making tape machines some 30 years ago because of short term cash flow problems which resulted from poor business decisions. Lockeed is still in Calif, making planes. The SR-71 is obsolete, although the U-2 is still used. Not sure about the stealth fighter. Chipmakers etc. all over the US, not just Calif, have moved manufacturing operations overseas specifically to take advantage of what we would consider starvation wages here in the US, even in the so-called "right to work" states.

It has been demonstrated that the Romans poisoned themselves with lead: lead water pipes, red lead adulterants in spices, lead wine storage vessels (the lead supposedly made the wine taste better), and so on. Are you suggesting we should follow suit and get rid of environmental laws? We have far more poisonous things around these days.
