The San Joaquin & Eastern RR ( owned by Southern California Edison )operated several cable inclines to drop construction supplies down to the various powerhouses of the Big Creek Hydro project, as well as up to the dams at Huntington Lake. This was located Northeast of Fresno, from a connection with Espee's Friant branch. Much of the upper end of the SJ & E is now a U.S.F.S. road. SJ & E was also unique in operating all 3 major types of geared steam locomotives ( Shay, Climax, & Heisler ), as well as rod locomotives on the lower portion.
