Something else to note about colorblindness/color-deficiency as it relates to railroads, is that the "spectrum" of color-blindness can be so broad, and dependent on what the color-source is, i.e., a solid painted plate vs. a colored light.
I'll fail portions of the Ishihara Dot Test every time, and sometimes have trouble distinguishing paint shades and other everyday things, but run a colorblindness test using relatively bright colored lights... like railroad signals... and I pass easily.
