Re: Dispatcher Territories

Here in the Spokane/north Idaho area, dispatchers are known to not only cross into adjacent territory, but into others railroads as well. BNSF's Boyer West DS on 161.250 runs the show from Sandpoint Jct, ID, west to Lakeside Jct., WA. Boyer East DS on 160.920 runs the show from Sandpoint Jct., ID, east to Whitefish, MT. When things get congested and some creative decisions are being made about the order in which trains from either side of Sandpoint (including those moving on or off MRL) are going to get across the Lake Pend Oreille bridge, you sometimes hear Boyer East talking on Boyer West's channel giving eastbounds a heads-up, or Boyer West doing the same for westbounds on Boyer East's channel. And Boyer West has been heard on MRL's channel talking to MRL westbounds holding at Kootenai. I don't know if this is standard practice elsewhere, but around here, whenever a crew initiates an emergency call, it's not unheard of to have the other company's DS answer.
