Yes, the fact that SF uses the same voltage for everything probably makes crossings simpler. I do recall once, though, with an old Marmon trolley bus on Market Street, making a sudden stop with the poles in the crossing - the driver had all us school kids get out and push the bus a few feet so it was back on the real wire because apparently the crossing was insulated, and amazingly enough waited for us to get back aboard!
