Thanks for the post, I actually really appreciated that. The 3rd sub is a favorite line for me and I know it pretty well. I basically lived on it during the line's last two years of life. I've never heard of 'raceways' on the line although I can imagine a few parts that could handle century-mark speed - the stretch through Washtucna Coulee for example and also between the curve east of Washtucna and Hooper.
Do you recall what parts of the line were saw the fastest train speeds?
