Thanks Sammy. Never thought of the wear & tear of the points.

does a "#10 switch" mean the distance from the frog point to the trailing inside rails are at a 10:1 ratio? ie. - If I was to go heel-to-toe with my feet from the frog, I could count ten steps to be able to bridge one foot across the inside rails of the switch?

This will probably be an easy one to a railroader....
