I think you may be right. I didn't believe in this until I saw it myself. Two young women were walking on a sidewalk and one of them started to cross the street between two parked cars. There was another vehicle approaching and the friend said something to the effect of "watch out, there's a car coming." Her response? "If he hits me, that will be his problem." True story.
