Fred Frailey's book "Zephyrs, Chief and Other Orphans" indicates that the Southwest Limited still ran with separate coach and sleeper portions even as late as 1976, each with its own diner; the sleeper section also had its dome lounge, but the coach section had just the Hi-Level diner, with one group of six tables set aside as lounge space.

This is just three years after Santa Fe, unhappy with Amtrak's plan for operating this train, withdrew the rights to use its original Super Chief name and forced Amtrak to use the Southwest Limited name.
