I read somewhere that even the highspeed rail advocates are backing away from this one. They claim that there are so many compromises that it won't be classifiable as a true high speed route.
If this is true, what the heck is the point of this "bullet" train?!
Take a small fraction of that $68+ bil and invest in existing proven rail technologies and the return in investment will be manageable for the entire state!
How fast are the bilevel Amtrak California cars certified for? 100mph, 110mph? How fast is the bullet train supposed to be now? Is the difference in speed between these two rail technologies really worth $68+ Bil?!
I'm fine with the longer trip, as long as we have WiFi on the train, that helps those with desk jobs stay connected.
