BART indeed seems intransigeant about not changing anything Bechtelian to improve on its worst of breed noise reputation. Like going to all steel wheels and tapered profile tyres.

Traditionally, going years back, Westinghouse had the best reputation when it came to PCC motors and controls. If I remember correctly it was the Westinghouse 1432 vs. the GE 1132? Something like that but the Westinghouse was considered the better. But when it came to trolley coach motors and controls the GE all electrics were rated much more reliable than the Westinghouse air-operated stuff.
