Sorry, NOT TRUE. The present wheel tread on BART was the result of extensive experiments after the original tread that followed traditional railroad practice gave serious problems.

BART put lights and video cameras under cars and photographed different experimental treads in service until they determined which one caused the least amount of truck hunting. So you can't blame Bechtel.
