Timken Tapered Roller Bearings

Ah, yes the good old days of magazines and ads for Timken Tapered Roller Bearings.

One of the pages linked there is a blog with a 1949 TTRB ad at the bottom of the page. The writer has a droll description of the earlier technology: "Before Timken's patent of the tapered roller bearing, railway cars were carried by wheels mounted on a broom handle stuck through beef hearts. The smell was awful and the beef hearts needed to be replaced every hundred yards."
