There is also road that goes out to a building at the Hetch Hetchy pipes and from there there is a stairway up to the trestle on the east end that has been mostly removed. I believe that was the more common way for the bridge tenders to get to the swing span. From the swing span to the house there is a very narrow walkway up to the house with Sara Winchester mystery house like short steps.
Up in the house there is a Fairbanks Morse engine that drives the swing bridge and a Detroit Diesel two stroke that is a generator. Everything in the house is left the way it was in 1982.
