Actually, I quite like what I see from the pictures.

IMHO, it was a good decision to not try to imitate something "old style" (which would have failed miserably anyway), but to put up something which contrasts with the old station building, but has its own merits.

FWIW, to some extent, it reminds me of what the SBB did with the Zürich Stadelhofen station (renovating the original station building, and have the new stuff designed by Santiago Calatrava). It did, of course, cause some brouhaha, but the results quieted down those voices pretty quickly. You may look here or here for the renovated station building.
