Drew, that is a gorgeous photo of a gorgeous locomotive. The P8 has to be one of the all time most handsome steam engines.
Margaret, sorry to pick a nit, but 1894 was when the SP reached SLO from the north; the last segment between SLO and Santa Barbara wasn't completed for another 4 years.
