1. Staying on topic. The smelt have nothing to do with this. Many objections have been raised to the California High Speed Rail based on perceived environmental impacts. You could have cited these objections so support your views.
2. Refrain from name-calling. The fact that you resort to names says more about you than those who are opposing transportation projects on environmental matters.
3. Educating yourself about World War II, Nazi Germany and the Holocaust
4. Finding different sources of information about environmentalists. There are many environmentalists who DO favor investments in rail and transit projects. I work for a public transportation provider which had a Sierra Club officer who was on the board of directors. She definitely favored infrastructure improvements to improve transit.
By the way, many people enjoy eating smelt. They may not so readily agree that protection of smelt habitat is a bad idea.
