What you see is a new train, the ZG2OA/ZOAG2. UP started this service out of Oakland in January to compete with BNSF on the Chicago-->Bay Area UPS run.

Westbound, the ZG2OA pulls into Sparks with 5 units on the head end and all of the Lathrop and Oakland cars. The Lathrop cars are cut off at Sparks and head out a few hours later on the ZSPLT with a different set of power. The ZG2OA power and Oakland cars continue onto their destination, and this is always an overpowered train.

Eastbound, the ZOAG2 departs Oakland with the five units and a handful of cars. In Sparks, the ZLTSP cars are added, and the combined train then leaves for Chicago.
