I think ATS is still in use today in Calif. on old Santa Fe territory by Metrolink. I remember when you could get close enough to the control cab to look over the engineer's shoulder through the window. It was something to experience going 90 MPH, per speedometer, across grade crossings with big trucks and autos backed up. Not sure if engr was comfortable with that. Of course access is denied to the forward end of the cab car nowadays. A glance at any Metrolink loco or cab car would verify if this is still so.
