I thought about getting some done - not just because of the blog - but the site and the modeling. But that's a good idea, to show officers that I'm not the odd character I appear to be. That I'm somewhat legit.
Years ago, I was clearly trespassing on the old wooden bridge over the mainline trench (now since removed) taking pics. This was a well-know photo op location for railfans. The shirtless guy in the blog photo was right near there.
Anyway, I see the white Blazer pulling up, and it's too late to beat a hasty exit. I backpedal off the bridge slowly, as the BNSF police officer steps out. First thing he says is "Are you Mike...?"
I answered "...um... yeah..."
As it turned out, my so-called local prominence preceded me. Not that I could hide behind it.
Now, Paul has since retired from duty, and younger, more aggressive officers have taken his place. So don't think you can do as you please here in Spokane. Word has it that the fines collected for trespassing go into the fund for more No Trespassing signs. Which makes sense.
But it was refreshing to find a warm-hearted fan, who knew who I was, and chatted me up (until he got a radio call about someone on a bridge). I got a mild warning from Paul, and got to meet a fan where I'd least expect one.
