Years ago, soon after the creation of BNSF, I believe 1996 or 97. I was on a public sidewalk near Napa taking a shot of some CP Power on a BNSF train. A BNSF security officer with a very bad attitude drove up and informed me I was trespassing..I informed him that I was on a sidewalk in Spokane, not on BNSF property, which I was. There were no signs around, either. We went round and round a couple of times. He told me to produce some ID; not asked me for some ID. Since he was so ill mannered I refused. He then informed me he was going to call the City of Spokane Police. I told him go ahead, what are you going to tell them? "There is this 50 year old man down here on a city sidewalk who won't show me his ID.... Eventually he walked back to his 4X4 and drove off. There was a vagrant of sorts asleep in the bushes not 100 feet away, actually on BNSF property. I wasn't going to drawn attention to this guy as obviously Barney Fife didn't see him or care.
