More New Signals on the Otherwise Dark SI

Earlier this year we saw activation of new power switches and signals at Trentwood, WA, on UP's former Spokane International. Now there are new signals popping up either side of Grand Jct., ID, where the SI crosses BNSF's Coeur d'Alene Sub. This has long been an unprotected crossing for UP trains, with nothing more than stops signs telling BNSF's CdA Local to stop, radio the UP, and ask permission to cross. With Canadian crude now part of the traffic flow, and PTC/CTC island improvements taking place all the way up to Canada, the SI is looking different every day. Only other signals on the route, at this time, are those which have long protected the approach to BNSF trackage at Napa Street, the crossing of the BNSF diamond in Sandpoint, and the slide fence just north of Bonners Ferry.
