Bridging the Valley Project is still inching along with X-ings being turned into overpasses, such as the that last big one that was finished at Havana St. (Yardley) and the next one being planned at either Pleasantview or McGuire Rd. in Idaho. But the concept of closing the SI from the Spokane/Trentwood area to Athol, and adding a third main on BNSF's ROW to accommodate UP traffic, is now on the very back burner, if not in the sub-zero freezer. BNSF really doesn't want that hassle right now. And UP is pouring so much money into its property there now, it's pretty clear that they expect to be using all of the SI for at least the next several years.
