On most Alcos I have seen, the center pin/pivot point is offset compared to the wheelbase of a three-axle truck. Three axle flexicoils are closer to being centered.

I wasn't too sure they could economically swap the trucks, but that is what they said.

On another question - I am familiar with the two axle flexicoil design used on SWs, which seems to have been somewhat interchangeable with the standard AAR type switcher truck. But - the B flexicoil truck used on CN GP9s and GMD1s does have a different design. Does anyone know if they had a longer truck wheelbase than switchers. Remember that most of the GMD1s were originally A-1-A and most were rebuilt to B-B using trucks salvaged from the GP9s. I wonder how the traction motor blower ducts lined up?
