The diesel manufactures have hit a wall with the EPA emmisions requirement. The technology has hardly gotten any better since tier 3 started in 208. Me thinks it's time to get out of the heavy duty diesel repair business after 15 years. It just is'nt worth wrenching and spending loads of cash on new tools and scanners, on this crap for 35 bucks an hour after Obama and Jerry Brown get their cut.
Hard to tell what EMD will come out with, but I'd imagine they will be using of the shelf products like everyone else. I'll be amazed if the can reinvent the wheel, Cat great engineers couldn't figure it out in 2008. And they left the 'on highway' truck engine market. fyi the CAT trucks have Intertrashional engines in them.
