I sure do remember them. I was in elementary school in the early 1950s and an office assistant would rattle off copies of bulletins. When I mean "rattle off", I mean it sounded like "Rat-ta-tat-ta-tat-at-tat.." Throughout the quiet hallways of the school the sound would echo.
IIRC the original copy was a sheet of paper with a wax quality that would push the letters out a bit for copying. If you made an error you had to fill in with wax and retype,
