Sounds like a "Ghestetner" machine.....the final innovation before the Xerox. The US Court dump one of those on me 25 years ago along supplies and ink. The gold needle burned and impression off an original on a rotating drum. You could get thousands of exact copies, including photos, off the screen copy until the ink fouled it. Great fun for ranger on a budget.
