"The money will help pay for work on 3,600 feet of the trail that will cut through the future Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, the 22 acres of former railroad property that city officials plan to transform with lawns and gardens, as well as with a covered picnic pavilion and an outdoor classroom with stone seating.

"When completed, the Cross Alameda Trail will begin on Main Street near the former Alameda Naval Air Station, travel along a former railroad line and end on Tilden Way at the Fruitvale Bridge."
