Hey BOB2, I just read through the Submarines story in Signor's Beaumont Pass book. The inventor's name was Espee fireman Bob Richardson. He had made engineer by the time of his death in the Tortuga Wreck. I assume Rule 104C was the one enacted after Tortuga, where a RR employee attending a mainline switch had to stand 100 feet away after lining it ???
The book also states " In 1958, all but 40 of the 242 subs located at Indio were torn down by city ordinance. " So I guess it was the city that didn't like the subs. Or maybe the city councilmen / HOTEL owners ???
