Indio always had visions of being the next "Palm Springs", if they could just get rid of that stupid RR yard and finish I-10.

The RR left, along with the jobs it provided, and so did most of downtown, That included some damn fine Mexican restaurants I really miss. And, most of the RR hotels became SRO's for the really down and out. They had also finished I-10 about then, and that largely finished the job of killing downtown, no reason to have to stop or slow down, passing through Indio anymore.

I did some subcontracting work a few years ago doing some grant analysis on a possible rail-bus connection over the hill to Riverside or San Bernardino involving the latest iteration of that cities management, and it appeared that they were still waiting for the "miracle" to occur....? But now, if they could only get Metrolink to run over the hill to terminate there and revitalize downtown.....?

At least they have the Coachella festival, now.
