I would feel more comfortable if they started HSR from both ends first. That's where the most people to be served are living. The LA area and Bay area would have right away, utility,property condemnation, and nimby problems up the wazoo. Deal with that first. Anybody can steamroller a few farmers and ranchers in the San Joaquin Valley. I fear that we are going to end up with some sad curious Stonehenge type of structures between Merced and Bakersfield that future tourists will marvel and laugh at as a sign of man's folly.
