Harry's comments ring a lot of truth to them. Here in southern Oregon we have five different railroad clubs which operate and maintain the Medford Railroad Park. Three of the clubs seem to be doing well with getting/retaining members, two others are struggling. There are so many choices for young people to spend their free time on.

One thing our NRHS chapter realized a long time ago is that the general public knows little about railroads. For example, when they come inside one of our restored cabooses we need to explain what a caboose is and what it was used for. We're two generations away from when the average person dealt with railroads on almost a daily basis.
